We wish to inform you of a funding opportunity available to scientists in all disciplines in your country under USAID’s Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program. PEER is a highly competitive, peer-reviewed awards program administered by the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. PEER funding goes directly to the institution in your country for researchers working in partnership with a U.S. government-funded researcher. We hope you will distribute information about this program broadly and encourage your scientists, engineers, and social scientists to apply. The PEER program provides an extraordinary opportunity to promote research cooperation between your country and researchers funded by or based at nine U.S. federal science agencies including: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Smithsonian Institution, US Forest Service (USFS), Agriculture Research Service (ARS), and US Geological Survey (USGS). The PEER program supports research projects in USAID partner countries which address local and global development challenges. The PEER COVID-19 cycle aims to support research projects that focus on the impacts of COVID-19 and potential solutions.
This call is for research proposals that focus on the impacts of COVID-19 and potential solutions through the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program. The deadline for submission for pre-proposals is October 22, 2021.
Potential sectors to study include but are not limited to the following:
Digital innovations (e.g., cashless transfers, geospatial and big data)
Education (e.g., effects of school closure on learning, digital solutions for remote education)
Agriculture and food (e.g., resilient value chains, effects of COVID-19 on food systems)
Women and gender (e.g., disproportionate impact of shocks, correlation between COVID-19 and gender-based violence)
Public health (e.g., novel approaches to contract tracing, mobile health, vaccine distribution)
PEER awards directly support in-country investigators, working in partnership with a current U.S. government-funded researcher. The maximum individual award amount is $70,000 for one year. The funding opportunity is open to researchers in select USAID partner countries.
