Butler University offers debt free undergraduate education to students with demonstrated financial need

Butler University- (Established 1855) – offers debt free undergraduate education to students with demonstrated financial need.

Butler University will become the third US college to join a network that offers a two-year, debt-free associate degree program for students with a demonstrated financial need, university president James Danko announced Friday.

After earning an associate degree, the new program will allow students to receive a bachelor’s degree from the university for about $10,000, Danko said.

“You only need one ray of light to chase all the shadows away.”

– Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove

The new program aims to help students of color, first-generation college students and students from low-income households receive a higher education. Taco Bell Foundation Scholarship- non traditional ways to finding support for higher education

The Live Más Scholarship Returns With $10 Million On The Line For Passionate Youth Leaders

The Taco Bell Foundation is back for its ninth year to continue to empower students’ creativity, fearlessness and hope.

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 1, 2023 – Today, the Taco Bell Foundation announced the opening of its ninth annual Live Más Scholarship (LMS) application, offering up to $10 million to enable the next generation of leaders to pursue their passion and ignite change in their community. This year’s award is available for both Taco Bell customers and team members and will provide funds and resources needed to fuel bold ambitions. Passionate students pursuing their dreams can share their 2-minute submission for a chance to be awarded up to $25,000 in funding.

“This program started as a way to support students whose dreams had no bounds, and it has since transformed into something far beyond your run-of-the-mill scholarship,” said Jennifer Bradbury, Executive Director of the Taco Bell Foundation. “There is nothing more fulfilling than watching scholars blow us away year after year with their creativity and drive, and I can’t wait to see what this next class of scholars has in store.”

Nine years, 2,731 scholars and $39 million later, the Live Más Scholarship is a program unlike any other. This annual scholarship program is designed for students who are passionate about creating a better future and making a positive impact in society. The Live Más Scholarship is passion-based, not achievement-based, and therefore does not require students to submit grades, essays or test scores. The funds are applicable to multiple education paths, including community colleges and trade schools, and support all interests including creative arts, social justice, medicine, education, entrepreneurship – you name it.

Students ages 16 to 26 are encouraged to apply using the non-traditional video application format. The application consists simply of a two-minute video where applicants can express their passion, articulate the positive impact they aspire to create in the world and describe how education will pave the path to achieve that goal.

This program is more than just a check with your name on it – winners will join a community of passionate changemakers and gain access to career development opportunities, professional connections, and a nationwide mentorship network. Last year, Kimberly Uehisa, a student passionate about medicine and health education, was awarded the Live Más Scholarship and went on to become even more embedded in the Taco Bell Foundation community as she was selected as finalist for the Taco Bell Foundation’s Ambition Accelerator program. Individuals like Kimberly see the Live Más Scholarship as a jumping off point – it’s only the beginning of their journey as a social change trailblazer.

The application period opens today, November 1, 2023, and will close on January 3, 2024. Recipients will be announced in April 2024. The award amounts are $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000 per student. Of these awards, the Taco Bell Foundation will allot approximately $3 million for Taco Bell team members who have been a part of the Taco Bell family for at least 30 continuous days.

The Taco Bell Foundation partners with Taco Bell restaurants across the country to raise money through the Round Up program, where customers can choose to round up their order total to the nearest dollar to support Taco Bell Foundation year-round. Round Up funds help support Live Más Scholarships for consumers, while donations from Taco Bell franchise owners and Taco Bell Corp. support Live Más Scholarships for Taco Bell team members.

If you are interested in a fun way to support the scholars, Taco Bell is bringing back its nostalgic Coin Drop game in the Taco Bell app after its introduction earlier this year, starting on Giving Tuesday and running until December 11*. A digital “coin” will appear when customers opt to Round Up their total to the nearest dollar in the Taco Bell app while ordering (or visit ta.co/coindropamoe to request a coin without making a purchase or rounding up). Raising an impressive $182,000 for the Taco Bell Foundation and the Live Más Scholarship program during its introductory run, Taco Bell Rewards Members** can join in on the Coin Drop excitement on November 28 for a chance to win the game and snag Cinnamon Twists, a Crunchy Taco, or a Bean Burrito while doing their part for a good cause.

Education opportunities in community colleges in the state of Massachusetts, USA

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey on Thursday visited MassBay Community College to celebrate the launch of a new program that makes community college free for residents over age 25.

The program, called MassReconnect, was part of Healey’s inauguration speech and her first budget proposal. The budget, which was signed into law earlier this month, includes $20 million for the first year of implementation.

Each of the state’s 15 community colleges is also receiving $100,000 to help launch the program.

“This is a long-term investment not just in these students, ultimately, that redounds to the benefit of their families. But it also is about an investment in our state,” Healey said.

Potential students still have time to enroll in MassReconnect for the fall semester. To qualify, students who have not previously earned a college degree need to enroll in at least six credits per semester in an approved program of study leading toward an associate degree or certificate and complete the Free Application for Student Aid.

MassReconnect is expected to support between 6,500 and 8,000 students during the first year and up to 10,000 during the second year, Healey’s office said.

“MassReconnect will be transformative for thousands of students, for our amazing community colleges, and for our economy,” said Healey. “It will bolster the role of community colleges as economic drivers in our state and help us better meet the needs of businesses to find qualified, well-trained workers. We can also make progress in breaking cycles of intergenerational poverty by helping residents complete their higher education credentials so they can attain good jobs and build a career path. Our administration is grateful for the partnership of the Legislature to move forward on this critical program that will make our state more affordable, competitive and equitable.”

The Banoo and Daraius Mobedjina Impact Fellows Scholarship

The Zoroastrian Association of Metropolitan Washington, Inc. (ZAMWI) is delighted and honored to provide two Scholarships annually of $4,000 (US) each to selected Zoroastrian students from any part of the world who are enrolled in a degree or professional program at any accredited Institution of higher education in the USA. The Banoo and Daraius Mobedjina Impact Fellows Scholarship reflects the wishes of the two donors in whose names a very generous donation was received by ZAMWI, and in whose names the scholarships are awarded.

ZAMWI is introducing a different and innovative approach to the award of these scholarships which we believe emphasizes Zoroastrian values and tradition. Zoroastrians are known both in their home countries of India, Iran, and Pakistan, as well as in the diaspora for their honesty, diligence, civic mindedness, and philanthropy. These traits stem from our religious tradition built upon the mantra of “Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds.” In The Gathas, Zarathustra exhorts us to further Mazda’s Creation as the universe moves toward perfection, through good stewardship of the world and all its creatures. Happiness to those who bring happiness to others.

The core objective of this Fellowship is to encourage and enable its recipients to make a positive impact on our world and our fellow humans. The Scholarship requires its selected recipients to use their Good Mind to conceive a project or activity that builds on their academic program of study to deliver results that further their Zoroastrian values and enrich life on earth. They are therefore titled as “Fellows” for the positive impact they will have on society while at the same time enriching their own development by applying their skills to perform Good Deeds that align with Asha.

We at ZAMWI are very excited about this innovative approach to Scholarships and request that you share this announcement with all your members and associates so we can reach as many Zoroastrians as possible.

More specifics regarding the Scholarship can be found on our website www.ZAMWI.org. Applications are now being accepted. CLICK HERE to apply.

We thank you for your support and we will post updates regarding our Fellows, their projects and their achievements on our website.

Sincerely,

Zarir P. Khademian, MD, Ph.D.

President, ZAMWI

One Health Scholarship
Funded by Georgia Aquarium,
Administered by the One Health Commission

2023 Application Deadline,

June 9, 2023 by 11:59 PM Eastern

Since September 2021
A $5,000 USD Dr. Greg Bossart Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduate student in wildlife biology, epidemiology, veterinary, medical, public health, basic or social sciences or other post-graduate program focusing on the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment using a One Health framework. The next cycle of applications will be announced spring 2023.
Greg Bossart, V.M.D., Ph.D. was a highly respected veterinarian, pathologist, and conservationist committed to advancing the understanding of marine mammals as sentinels of ocean and human health. With a career spanning 30 years and over 200 publications, Dr. Bossart identified resurgent and emerging diseases in dolphins, manatees, birds, and whales. His research and innovative techniques helped characterize the first viral diseases in manatees and he was responsible for developing the first immunohistochemical technique for diagnosing brevetoxicosis (red tide poisoning) in both marine mammals and birds.
Dr. Bossart was a dedicated proponent of the One Health concept and approach which was a prominent theme in his long-running Atlantic bottlenose dolphin Health and Environmental Risk Assessment (HERA) project. Started in 2003, HERA was developed to monitor how dolphin health in coastal habitats is impacted by environmental stressors and how those stressors potentially also impact human health. His contributions to the study of marine mammal health are far-reaching, and through this scholarship, Georgia Aquarium is committed to honoring Dr. Bossart’s One Health legacy.
