Generously funded by the Government of Japan, since 2015 the Prize rewards exceptional projects and programmes in the field of Education for Sustainable Development. In 2021, three winners will be rewarded with USD 50,000 each and will be invited to establish a long-term collaboration with UNESCO by joining the ESD for 2030 Global Network (ESD-Net). The second round of applications for the SoLAR Innovations Grants is now open. IWMI is accepting applications from eligible innovators till 30th of April, 2021.   The SoLAR Innovation Fund (IF) aims to support the development and testing of technological, financial and institutional innovations to address the constraints and challenges of scaling solar irrigation, with a special focus on the problems faced by small-scale, marginal, and women farmers in South Asia (specifically Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Pakistan).   The IF will aim to support innovations and practices that can influence policy or be expanded and integrated into public, donor and private sector programs and practices with the support of additional funding sources. International dual and joint degrees to get green light

India is set to greenlight dual and joint degrees awarded by Indian universities with international partners as part of its internationalisation plan being pushed through forcefully since its inclusion last year in the National Education Policy (NEP), a blueprint for the next decade. Foreign universities had already started to explore such opportunities, while noting the challenges of setting up joint or dual degrees. India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman flagged up the change in her budget speech on 1 February, saying: “To promote enhanced academic collaboration with foreign higher educational institutions, it is proposed to put in place a regulatory mechanism to permit dual degrees, joint degrees, twinning arrangements and other such mechanisms.” This has opened the door to universities overseas looking for Indian partnerships. “It was spoken about in the budget…
